I have tried a lot of different setting powders in my day. A lot of them can look dry and powdery, leaving an ashy look to the skin. Not this powder. The Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Setting Powder has a cult following, and there's good reason. It's the only powder I've found that truly locks foundation and concealer in place all day. I really wasn't a big believer in loose setting powders before trying this one. It makes the skin look almost blurry, like a soft focus effect. Pores and lines look less noticeable. Now for those of you who are into "baking" your makeup this is AMAZING for that. It can look a little dry under the eyes, so for that I would recommend their Secret Brightening Powder. I personally don't mind if it looks a little dry on myself so long as it stays on. They make a velour puff, sold separately, that gently presses the powder into the skin. This meshes it with the foundation instead of it just sitting on top like it would with a traditional powder brush. I would highly recommend this product and think its worth the $38!
For this California beach bride, Katya, I wanted to keep her looking as natural and fresh as possible. I started with Chanel Les Beiges Healthy Glow Fluid as an all over base to give her subtle coverage and a healthy glow. I then used Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua Foundation down the center of her face and blended outward, and where ever else she needed more coverage. I set everything with Chanel Les Beiges Powder for a semi matte, yet luminous finish. For her eye makeup I kept it very simple with just a little Soft Brown from MAC in the crease, and Naked Lunch from MAC on her lid. I used Espresso waterproof eyeliner from Chanel along with Intimitable Mascara in Noir. For her lips I used Chanel Aqualumiere Lipstick in the shade Como, which is no longer in production unfortunately. I topped it off with Chanel Glossimer in Constellation and In Love blush on her cheeks. I'm particularly proud of this look because I got to show off my hair styling skills! Not something I do very often, but I can do a mean fishtail braid when I have to :).
For Laurens wedding day makeup it was all about the eyes. She told me she loved what I did for her engagement photos but wanted something a little more dramatic for her wedding day. Since this was going to be a much longer day than the last time we worked together I used CHANEL Perfection Lumiere Foundation on top of the Vitalumiere Aqua to give her that extra long wear. I used a water proof black pencil to rim the inside water line on both the upper and lower lashline. I then smudged it all the way around and set with black eyeshadow. I blended out the black with a warm dark brown from CHANEL Raffinement quad. I used a touch of the highlight color from that quad on the inner corners and a LITTLE bit on her brow bone (nothing worse that TOO MUCH brow highlight!). For her lips I went for good old faithful CHANEL UltraWear Lip Color. The shade I used was Rose Pearl. I love the way she paired her strapless gown with a classic single strand of pearls. Such a beauty!
Lauren came to me so excited to be engaged. Smiling and glowing with a beautiful new diamond ring on her finger. I was happy to do her makeup for her because she was so sweet! She wanted something that defined her eyes but still looked fairly natural. She naturally has dark full lashes and gorgeous full eyebrows. She didn't need much help in the eyebrow department but to fill them in slightly I used dark brown shadow from the CHANEL Dunes quad. She has the most amazing bone structure and was so naturally pretty that we didn't need to do much contouring. For her blush I used CHANEL Jous Contrast in Rose Petal and kept her lips natural with Rouge Coco Shine in the color Boy. For her eye makeup I rimmed them with a black khol Pencil and smoked it out just a little with a dark brown eyeshadow.
I finished off the eyes with a touch of a shimmery champagne color on the inner corners of the eyes and CHANEL Le Volume Mascara. The foundation I used on her is my FAVORITE which is CHANEL Vitalumiere Aqua. It's a light water based makeup that looks soft and natural and photographs beautifully. I set her foundation with a translucent loose powder just down the center of the face to prevent any oiliness from shining through, as I knew it was going to be an outdoor shoot. Over all I think Lauren looks soft and natural with slightly more defined eyes. She was beautiful to start with so that made my job pretty easy! I've had the pleasure of working with Lauren on a couple more shoots since this one and can't wait to share the pictures!
Joanna's wedding was located at the beautiful Priest Lake in Idaho. Surrounded by rich forests and snow capped mountains framing the peaceful lake this was definitely a wedding to remember. Doing the makeup at this location was like a mini vacation from my busy everyday life! I will definitely have to take a trip out there for a weekend getaway. For her makeup Joanna wanted something natural and classic. I wanted her skin to look as natural as possible and her eyes to be defined without looking over done. I kept the eyeshadow to a minimum and went for a matte neutral look. I used a subtle black winged liner to hide the gorgeous false lashes which made her eyes look sultry yet fresh.
I was very happy with the way it turned out. She looked naturally beautiful and glowing. For lips I used CHANEL UltraWear Lip Color in the color Rose Quarts. Those lip colors are great for weddings because they are extremely long wearing and transfer resistant, which is great when you are kissing your groom! Her foundation is a mixture of CHANEL Vitalumiere Aqua which I love for a natural glow, and Perfection Lumiere which has a 15 hour wear. I like to use the Vitalumiere Aqua all over the face for light natural coverage, then use the Perfection Lumiere down the T-zone and where ever extra coverage is needed. She didn't want a drawn on brow look (which I generally don't recommend anyways) so I used MAC Omega eyeshadow with an angled brush for a softer effect.
